Two-thirds of NAC&U institutions were recognized on the 2015 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll which is the highest federal recognition an institution can receive for its commitment to community, service-learning, and civic engagement. The Honor Roll has four categories: General Community Service, Interfaith Community Service, Economic Opportunity, and Education.
Nazareth College is one of only four colleges nationwide named as a finalist in the Interfaith Community Service category. Nazareth was recognized for its commitment to experiential interfaith education as reflected in two creative programs that are offered to the next generation of interfaith leaders, at Nazareth and in the Rochester community. The Interfaith Journey Series, which is sponsored primarily by the Center for Spirituality, provides experiential interfaith education for college students at Nazareth. The Global Citizenship Immersion, which is sponsored by the Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue (at Nazareth), provides experiential interfaith education for high school students in the Rochester area. Both programs are focused on the education of young people, who are coming of age in a religiously pluralistic world that demands cross-cultural understanding for success.
