Merrimack College, North Andover, Mass., is the latest college to become a member of the New American Colleges and Universities (NACU), a national consortium of private, comprehensive colleges and universities that are recognized for advancing the integration of liberal education, professional studies, and civic engagement.
Intentionally geographically diverse, NACU members are like-minded peers in terms of size and mission and therefore can come together to collaborate on projects and share best practices in a trusted, collegial manner. Collectively, NAC&U members work to improve student learning environments and outcomes, as well as preserve and promote a comprehensive model of education that reflects quality and purpose.
“Merrimack’s culture and approach to higher education mirrors that of our members,” said Sean Creighton, president of NACU. “Their emphasis on integrating strong liberal arts programs, well-regarded professional programs, hands-on learning, and global citizenship makes Merrimack an ideal fit for our collegiate learning network. We are excited to work with and learn from them going forward.”
Over the past decade, Merrimack has become one of the fastest-growing private Catholic Colleges in New England. Merrimack College has experienced unprecedented success, marked by record applications and enrollments at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Under the leadership of President Christopher E. Hopey, Ph.D., the institution has invested heavily in its residential and academic experience, expanded graduate education and online learning, grown its faculty ranks, reclassified as a Division I institution and completed the largest major capital campaign in the College’s history.
Due to this success and the entrepreneurial culture of the institution, Merrimack is now considered one of the more innovative and transformative institutions in the country according to US News & World Report & Money Magazine.
“Merrimack College is excited to become a member of NACU and looks forward to connecting with like-minded institutions,” said President Hopey. “We are committed to delivering quality and innovative educational experiences at both the undergraduate and graduate level, a strategy that continues to move Merrimack forward. Sharing these strategies and learning from NACU members will help each institution to not only move forward individually but to move higher education forward as a whole.”
